NEXUS TOWER

Interactive communities are not generally the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about high-rises. Even though many people are living and working in the same building, a community is not automatically created. Many times, people living in high-rise buildings do not even know their neighbors. The design of Nexus Tower establishes a sense of community within the building where residents want to interact with each other.

There are two outdoor community spaces for each neighborhood; one of the southwest corner and another on the northeast. The community space on the southwest side of the neighborhood is accessible from each floor of a neighborhood and is a space that allows neighbors to come together in a unique place that is their own. This outdoor space also provides additional space for residents to have vertical gardens on the south side of the balcony.

The design for Nexus Tower focuses on bringing the community together and creating an atmosphere that is inviting to a range of residents. The typology for this project is a 274,500 square foot mixed use tower and low rise complex located in the SOMA district of San Francisco, CA. Throughout the design process we went back to the question “how can we bring people together?” to help guide our design.
